Boston Public Library Groups, 1892-1907 Two groups of allegorical figures were commissioned in 1892 for the piazza of the Boston Public Library, designed by McKim, Mead, and White. Saint-Gaudens began one group with a figure of Labor supported by Science and Art, the other with Law supported by Religion and Force (or Power). These conceptions were later changed to be Labor supported by Science and Art, and Law supported by Power (Executive Power) and Love. Each of the figures has a symbolic emblem. (continued) |
