Charles Stewart and Lawrence Smith Butler, 1880-81 The father of the boys (Lawrence, six years old here, and Charles, age four) was Prescott Hall Butler, a wealthy New York lawyer. He was brother-in-law to architect Stanford White. Butler had asked White to design the dining room in his Long Island residence ("Bytharbor," in St. James, New York). |
