Louis St. Gaudens, 1866 Pencil sketch, now lost, of Louis St. Gaudens (1853-1913), younger brother of Augustus. Louis was taught cameo cutting by Augustus in 1872. He worked as his brother’s assistant and later as a colleague and independent artist. Louis adopted "St. Gaudens" as the spelling of his name to differentiate himself from his older brother. |
