| After the performance, the Saint-Gaudenses were brought
through the meadow to the sculptor's studio in a Roman-style chariot,
which was pulled by their Cornish Colony friends. (The invitation to the
masque advised attendees to bring their own hitchrope!) A ceremony was
held in which the golden bowl was presented to the sculptor and his
wife. This was followed by a great feast, and much dancing and
celebrating.
Saint-Gaudens was so delighted by the masque that he was inspired to create a plaque in memory of the event. The stage set is depicted in bas relief, with the names of all participants worked into the design. Small plaquettes (3 1/8 x 1 3/4 inches) of silver-plated bronze were cast by Tiffany & Company, and presented to each of the ninety participants in the summer of 1906. |
