Marcus Junius Brutus, 1873

Saint-Gaudens modeled this bust in Rome in 1873, for Edwin W. Stoughton (1818-1882), lawyer and ambassador to Russia.  Stoughton was an early patron of Saint-Gaudens', commissioning this bust and other portrait works from the sculptor.  This is one of several busts of classical figures modeled by Saint-Gaudens.
